Bitdefender VPN is a rebadged commercial network with tidy apps and a good jurisdiction on paper. It is fine alongside the antivirus and unremarkable on its own.

Our Bitdefender VPN review

Bitdefender VPN runs on infrastructure licensed from the Hotspot Shield ecosystem rather than servers Bitdefender operates itself, which is worth knowing because your traffic crosses a network built by a company with a weaker privacy record than Bitdefender's own.

The apps are the strongest part: fast to connect, app-level split tunneling, an ad and tracker blocker, and an automatic-connection rule set that turns the VPN on for untrusted Wi-Fi or specific site categories.

Romania is a favorable jurisdiction, and Bitdefender is a serious security company with a good reputation. But there is no independent no-logs audit of the VPN specifically, no crypto payment, no port forwarding and no multi-hop.

Every Bitdefender antivirus customer gets a limited free tier of 200 MB a day, which is enough for occasional use and functions mainly as an upsell to the Premium plan.

A reasonable convenience purchase for Bitdefender users. Standalone buyers should look at Proton VPN or Surfshark, which cost about the same on renewal and do considerably more.

Notable facts

  • Runs on infrastructure licensed from a third-party VPN provider
  • Includes a 200 MB per day free tier with Bitdefender antivirus
